Tata Harrier has received over 16,000 bookings at the end of December 2018

The long-awaited Tata Harrier SUV has finally been introduced in the Indian market. Tata Motors has left no stone unturned to make it a successful product. Priced aggressively at Rs 12.69 lakh for base model and Rs 16.25 lakh for the top-end model, the Harrier is significantly cheaper than the Jeep Compass and Mahindra XU500. Tata has been accepting pre-orders for the SUV since October 2018. If media report is to be believed, the company has received over 16,000 pre-orders at the end of December 2018.

Due to rising booking numbers, the Tata Harrier commands a waiting period of around 3 months. It is only available in a single-diesel and manual gearbox option. Powering the SUV is a 2.0-litre KRYOTEC diesel engine that produces 138bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The ARAI certified fuel economy of Tata Harrier is 16.7kmpl, which is higher than that of the Mahindra XUV500 which offers 15.1kmpl. However, it is lower than that of the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta rated at 17.1kmpl and 19.6kmpl respectively.
