Tata Harrier SUV will be the brand’s first model to use Land Rover’s D8 platform

Tata Motors had unveiled the stylish H5X SUV concept at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Since then, the SUV has been spotted testing on multiple times on Indian roads. We informed you earlier that the company will launch 2 derivatives of this SUV – 5-seater and 7-seater – former has been called the Tata Harrier. The company has officially announced that the SUV will go on sale in the first quarter of 2019. According to AutoCarIndia, the production-ready Tata Harrier is likely to go on sale in India in January 2019.

The Tata Harrier 5-seater premium SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 13 lakh – Rs 18 lakh, which makes it a direct rival to a range of SUVs including Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass. The Tata Harrier will be first Tata model to be based on the OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) platform. This platform is basically the modified version of the Land Rover’s D8 platform, which also underpins the Discovery Sport. The SUV looks largely identical the concept model, which is a good thing. It is Tata’s first model to feature the company’s new IMPACT Design 2.0 design language, which will also be offered on the upcoming Tata 45X concept based premium hatchback.

The Harrier SUV is most likely to be powered by Fiat sourced 2.0-litre MultiJet turbo diesel engine that also powers the Jeep Compass. This engine offers two states of tunes – 148bhp with 350Nm and 170bhp with 350Nm. The Harrier is expected to use the less powerful engine, while the 7-seater model is likely to use the 170bhp, 2.0L engine. A six-speed manual transmission will come as standard, while an automatic gearbox option is also likely to be on offer. Power will be transmitted to all-4 wheels via Tata’s own 4×4 system. The company could also use Land Rover’s Terrain Response Management System. Measuring around 4.5 meter long, the Tata Harrier is likely to feature a long wheelbase of 2,741mm which translates into spacious cabin.
