Tata Harrier, Safari Petrol Launch Might Not Happen – Report

In the past few months, we have seen multiple spy images of the Tata Harrier and Safari test mules that reported to be their petrol versions. Speaking to a media publication, Rajan Amba, Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Customer Care at Tata Motors said that the company isn’t considering petrol variants of its flagship SUVs. Tata’s diesel engines are good enough to offer “driveability that is expected from an SUV”. Currently, the Harrier and Safari are available with a 2.0L diesel motor that makes 168bhp with 350Nm.

Earlier reports state that Tata is working on a new 1.6L turbo direct-injection petrol engine that will be more powerful than the MPFI motors. It’s reported to make power worth around 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. It could be offered with automatic gearbox, paddle shifters and multiple drive modes. Well, it isn’t happening anytime soon.

Rumour has it that the home-grown automaker will give the mid-life updates to the Tata Harrier and Safari SUVs. The spy images reveal that the 2023 Harrier facelift will receive a few cosmetic changes and feature upgrades. It’s likely to come with a 360 degree surround view camera, ventilated seats, air purifier and infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Talking about the updated Tata Safari, the SUV is likely to be offered with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). It might get a bigger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity and a 360 degree camera.

In other updates, the home-grown automaker is ready to roll out its most affordable electric car on 28th September 2022. Called the Tata Tiago EV, the model is likely to cost around Rs 10 lakh. It could be packed with a 26kWh battery pack and a 75PS electric motor. Its range is expected to be around 300km on a full charge.
