Tata Harrier Outsells Jeep Compass In February 2019
In February 2019, the home-grown carmaker retailed 1449 units of the Tata Harrier.
Tata Motors introduced the Harrier premium 5-seater SUV in India on 23rd January, 2019. Priced from Rs 12.69 lakh to Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the Harrier undercuts its arch rival – Jeep Compass. With competitive pricing, sporty styling, feature-packed and spacious cabin and efficient powertrain, the new Tata SUV has been appealing its target buyers.
In February 2019, the home-grown carmaker retailed 1449 units of the Tata Harrier. On the other hand, the Jeep Compass registered total sales of 1304 units in the same month. That means, the Harrier outsold the Compass with a margin of 145 units. Tata’s Pune based facility serves as production hub for the Harrier. Based on the Omega Arc platform, the Tata Harrier makes use of a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This oil burner is essentially the detuned version of the Compass’ Fiat-sourced 2.0L motor. Its power and torque outputs stand at 138bhp and 350Nm of torque respectively. The carmaker will soon add an automatic variant to the Harrier SUV lineup. The new model will feature a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The SUV will also receive a new 1.6L petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission options. The Tata Harrier petrol is likely to hit showrooms before the new emission norms will kick in – i.e. 1st April, 2019.
