Tata Motors will showcase 4 exciting new cars – Altroz hatchback, H7X 7-seater SUV, Hornbill Micro SUV and 45X electric – at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The company had launched the Harrier SUV in January 2019 in diesel version only. A new media report claims that the company is looking at various petrol engine options for the Harrier and the H7X 7-seater SUV (Likely to be called Tata Buzzard). The report further claims that the company is also exploring an in-house developed 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit.

The Tata Harrier SUV is built on a new low-cost OMEGA platform, which is derived from Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 architecture. The company earlier plans to source the Ingenium petrol and diesel engines from JLR, but these powertrains would be too expensive for the brand. Tata has sourced the 2.0-litre diesel engine from Fiat Chrysler Automobile. Speaking to AutoCar Professional, Rajendra Petkar, Chief Technology officer, Tata Motors confirmed that the Harrier will get a gasoline engine. This engine could be in-house developed or will be sourced from other brand.

The report claims that the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder in-house developed engine will be a bigger version of the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron engine. The new engine will be a 4-cylinder unit and could receive a bigger turbocharger. Also See – Tata H7X 7-seater SUV – all details

Mr. Rajendra further claimed that the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine is designed keeping a four-cylinder engine in mind. The company will add one cylinder and a bigger turbocharger to develop a 1.6-litre gasoline engine. The Tata Harrier will also receive an automatic transmission option. Previous media report claims that the company will source the six-speed torque convertor from Hyundai. This gearbox will first debut in the H7X 7-seater SUV and Harrier.
