The long-awaited Tata Harrier 5-seater SUV will officially go on sale in the Indian market in January 2019. The SUV in production form will make its global debut in December 2018. Bookings for the SUV have already been started and interested buyers can pre-book it by paying an initial sum of Rs 30,000. Deliveries are being promised from January 2019. – New OMEGA platform sourced from JLR
The Harrier will be the brand’s first model to feature the new OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) architecture. This platform is sourced from Land Rover’s D8 architecture, which also underpins the Discovery Sport. Though, Tata has modified this platform to accommodate different body-styles. – New IMPACT 2.0 DESIGN Philosophy
The Harrier will also be the first model to feature Tata’s new IMPACT 2.0 DESIGN philosophy, which will be offered on future Tata cars including 45X concept based hatchback. The SUV features the brand’s new ‘Humanity Line’, featuring inset grille that merges into the LED daytime running lights forming a single-design element. The SUV gets massive bumper with plastic cladding and silver skid plates on the lower part.
The Harrier SUV will be equipped with a segment-best widescreen 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system from Visteon. Visteon is a leading automotive component supplier, which supplies infotainment systems, multi-info displays and digital instrument clusters to global brands including JLR. This system will be compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Navigation and reverse parking.
– Sound system from Harman
The audio system is sourced from Harman, which promises excellent sound system. The range-topping model will also get a sub-woofer setup, which we have already seen on the Tata Hexa.
– Spacious & Comfortable
Harrier is based on the H5X concept, which was previewed at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Similar to the concept, the Harrier will measure close to 4.5 meters in length. The longer wheelbase and length ensures spacious cabin. The Harrier will also share suspension setup from the Discovery SUV, which ensures comfortable ride on all-sorts of roads. The SUV will offer segment-leading comfortable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, charging ports for the rear occupants, etc.
– Only Front-wheel-drive
The SUV will only be offered in front-wheel-drive layout initially. No all-wheel-drive version will come in the 5-seat version. In fact, it will initially come in manual version only.
– Multi-drive modes
Despite being offered in FWD layout, Tata Harrier will offer multi-drive modes to customers. The SUV is expected to arrive in 3 driving modes – Standard, Rough and Wet, which users can switch at a touch of button.
– 2.0-litre diesel engine
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre KRYOTEC diesel engine, which is basically sourced from Jeep Compass. Though, Tata has de-tuned this engine for better efficiency. It is capable of producing 140bhp of power and 320Nm of torque.
– 7-seater model coming 2019
Tata Motors is also working on a 7-seater version of the Harrier, which has already been spotted multiple times on Indian roads. The 7-seater model is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2019. – Priced Between Creta and Compass
In terms of pricing, the Tata Harrier will sit somewhere between the Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass. It is expected to be priced around Rs 13.5 lakh for base model and Rs 18 lakh for the top-end variant.
