Tata H2X micro SUV will be the second model on the new ALFA modular platform.

Tata Motors had showcased the new H2X micro SUV concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It will be brand’s second model to be based on the new ALFA modular platform, which underpins the new Altroz premium hatchback. The concept version looks quite interesting, sharing styling cues from the H5X concept previewed at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. While the production model is expected to debut at the next year’s Auto Show, a new rendering reveals the possible design of the SUV.

Internally called the Tata Hornbill, the micro SUV is scheduled to be launched in mid-2020. The new digital rendering seems inspired by the Nexon compact SUV, though few design highlights are shared with the Harrier SUV. It features the Nexon-like upswept window-line with silver finish, while the roof is all-black. The C-pillar design is similar to the Nexon, while spoiler is integrated into the roof. The headlight design and fog lamp enclosure looks similar to the new Harrier SUV. The squared-off wheel arches with black cladding and alloy wheel looks identical to that of the concept. Silver underbody skid plates on the side profile also lifted from the concept. The rendering gets the wrap-around tail-lights.

The Tata Hornbill micro SUV will challenge the likes of Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Maruti Ignis and the upcoming Maruti Future S concept based mini SUV. The new micro SUV concept is wider and taller than the Nexon compact SUV. In terms of proportions, the H2X is 3,840mm in length, 1,822mm in width, 1,635mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,450mm. On the other hand, the Nexon is 3,990mm, 1,811mm and 1,607mm in length, width and height respectively. The H2X is 11mm wider and 28mm taller than the Nexon. This clearly suggests that Tata has given more importance to cabin comfort. This micro SUV is expected to offer class-leading space for both front and rear occupants.

The Tata Hornbill micro SUV is expected to be powered by the 1.2-litre petrol engine, which will be compliant with BSVI emission norms. This engine will debut in the new Altroz and is claimed to offer 100bhp of power and 172Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions are likely to be on offer.
