Tata Goshaq (Maruti Dzire Rival) to be based on Altroz Hatchback

Tata Sedan

Tata Motors is trying hard to regain its lost market share. The company is reportedly planning to launch 13-14 new cars in the country in the next 3-4 years. Adding to it, Tata is in talks with Chery, Chinese automaker for a partnership in India. The company is reportedly working on 2 new sedans, codenamed Penegrin and Goshaq.

The Tata Peregrin will be a mid-sized sedan, while the Goshaq is reportedly the sub-4 meter sedan. Both cars will be designed and developed on the new ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible, Advance) modular platform. This platform currently underpins the Altroz premium hatchback and the upcoming HBX concept based micro SUV. This platform is compatible enough to accommodate different body styles including SUVs, Sedans and MPVs and different engines such as petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric.

The Tata Goshaq is rumoured to come as a replacement for the Zest compact sedan, which has been discontinued owing to low demand. The sedan will take on the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura and the Honda Amaze. The name ‘Goshaq’ comes from the Northern Goshawk bird, which is known for sharp paws and beak. Tata Motors is currently selling the Tigor sub-compact sedan, which is likely to be sold alongside the upcoming Goshaq sedan.

The Tata Goshaq sedan will share the styling cues from the Altroz premium hatchback. The compact sedan could also source some of the design with the E-Vision sedan concept; however, the Goshaq is most likely to feature the notchback-like rear profile. The sedan’s cabin is expected to share features and styling with the Altroz. It will have a large free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and navigation and voice recognition functions. Also See – Upcoming Tata Cars

The sedan will have 90 degree opening doors, similar to the Altroz, for easy ingress or egress. Adding to it, the sedan could also receive a factory-fitted sunroof. The Tata Goshaq will be equipped with high-end features like height adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, multi-functional steering wheel, all-digital instrument console and cruise control.

The upcoming sedan is likely to be offered with 2 engine options – a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel. While the former is good for 85bhp and 114Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The company could also introduce the more powerful version of the sedan, which is likely to get the new 100bhp, 1.2L petrol engine. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer. The exact launch date is yet to be announced, but it is likely to arrive in the end of 2021 or early 2022. A possible debut at the 2020 Auto Expo can’t be ignored.
