Tata Motors to enter into the premium hatchback, mid-sized sedan and micro SUV segment in the next 2 years

After launching the Harrier SUV, Tata Motors is now aiming to enter into the new segments. The company has confirmed that it will have products in around 90% passenger car segment. Tata will showcase 4 all-new concepts at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. In terms of product strategy, the company will soon launch a premium hatchback based on the 45X concept. It is expected to be launched in mid-2019, around May-June.

The near-production 45X hatchback will be showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. This model will be based on the new Alfa modular platform, which will be used to develop future models under 4.3 meters in length. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which will be coupled to an electric motor.

Tata will also launch a 7-seater premium SUV, which will be based on the new OMEGA ARC platform. Internally called Tata H7X, the SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. This engine is expected to produce over 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor (Sourced from Hyundai). This SUV is likely to be launched in the end of 2019.

The homegrown automaker will launch the micro SUV, codenamed Vision Hornbill, in the country in 2020. This small SUV will be based on the new Alfa platform. It will directly rival the Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Maruti’s micro SUV based on the Future S concept. It is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that also powers the Tiago hatchback.

Tata will also enter into the mid-sized sedan segment in 2020. A mid-sized sedan based on the new Alfa platform will be launched to challenge the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The new mid-sized sedan will share the mechanics with the upcoming 45X premium hatchback.

The company is also working on an all-new electric vehicle based on the 45X hatchback. This model will be unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show in Concept form. It will also launch the Tigor EV for public transport in 2020.
