The Tata Buzzard 7-seater SUV will be launched in the second half of 2019.

Tata Motors has recently unveiled the new Buzzard 7-seater SUV at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. This SUV will also arrive in India, but with a different name. Scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2019, the new Buzzard SUV is basically the 7-seater version of the Harrier. The company’s 5-seater premium SUV Harrier is available in a single diesel engine with a manual transmission.

The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is sourced from FCA. This engine is capable of producing 138bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. Tata will tune this engine for higher power outputs. The more powerful version will be offered in the Buzzard, which is likely to offer 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque.

We informed you earlier that Tata is working on an all-new 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is likely to power the Harrier and Buzzard in India in 2020. With the arrival of BSVI emission norms, diesel cars are set to get expensive significantly. In fact, the price gap between the petrol and diesel cars will widen by up to Rs 2.5 lakh from the current 1 lakh. Keeping this in mind, Tata is exploring petrol engine options for the Harrier. Tata is most likely to develop the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder Revotron engine, which will mostly be the 4-cylinder version of the current 1.2-litre engine. The company could also source the engine from other brands. A possible use of Fiat’s 1.4-litre turbocharged engine can’t be ignored. This engine currently powers the Jeep Compass.

Tata is also planning to add sunroof option in the new Harrier, but it will take some time. The company is working hard to achieve the upcoming BSVI emission norms. The 4×4 variant is also in the works, though it is not in the priority list of Tata Motors.

The Tata Harrier and Buzzard are based on the new OMEGA ARC platform, which is sourced from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. The company will soon launch the Altroz premium hatchback, which will be followed by Buzzard SUV. The company is also considering an 8-seat MPV and an SUV-Coupe based on the OMEGA platform.
