Tata Bolt to get AMT gearbox?

Tata Bolt Front

Tata Motors India is gearing up to launch the Zest compact sedan and the Bolt hatchback in the country. We reported earlier that the Tata Zest will be the first diesel car to feature the automated manual transmission gearbox. Moreover, it is likely to be the cheapest diesel automatic car in the India. Both the Tata Zest and the Bolt is expected to hit the Indian shores in August, 2014. Media reports suggest that the company might also add the AMT gearbox to the smaller Bolt hatchback.

The Tata Bolt will be the second product in India to feature the automated manual gearbox.  Based on the thoroughly modified Tata’s X1 platform, the Zest sedan and the Bolt hatch are expected to offer more space compared to the Vista and Manza.

Both the hatchback and the sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the petrol version will get the company’s new turbocharged 1.2-litre Revotron engine, the oil burner will sport Fiat’s sourced 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel engine. The petrol engine will be paired with the standard five-speed manual gearbox, the diesel engines are likely to get automated manual transmission gearbox.
