Tata Motors pipped Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) to become India’s third largest passenger carmaker in June, 2018. The Tata Nexon compact SUV and Tata Tiago hatchback are the two major vehicles that zoomed the company’s sales graph. Models such as Hexa premium SUV and Tigor sedan also generated decent volume for the carmaker.
In June 2018, Tata Motors registered a total sales of 18,213 units against 18,137 units of Mahindra & Mahindra. While the former accounted 63 per cent sales growth, the latter one witnessed 12 per cent growth compared to the same period last year. Read – Upcoming Tata Cars In India
In an official statement, Tata Motors said, “June 2018 also saw the combined production of Tiago and Tigor cross the important milestone of 200,000 units. With the new product range and business strategy, Tata Motors recorded tremendous growth in the last few years. In April – June 17-18, the home-grown carmaker registered 52 per cent growth and M&M accounted only 9 per cent. In the first quarter, however, the latter one took a lead with a total sales of 60,779 passenger vehicles opposed to 52,937 units of the former. The Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai continued to retain the first and second spots respectively. The Indo-Japanese carmaker witnessed a growth of 44 per cent with 1.34 lakh units and Hyundai recorded 21 per cent with 45,371 units. The new-generation Honda Amaze has helped the Japanese carmaker to achieve 37 per cent in June, 2018. Toyota India managed to sell 13,088 units against 1,973 units in June last year.
