Tata Altroz EV India Launch Confirmed For 2020
Tata Motors recently unveiled its first electric SUV – Nexon EV – for the Indian market. The electric iteration of the subcompact SUV is scheduled to launch next month within the expected price range of Rs 15 lakh – Rs 17 lakh. The home-grown carmaker aims to further expand its electric product portfolio with the Tata Altroz EV that first broke cover in its concept avatar at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
Speaking to ETAuto, Shailesh Chandra, President, Electric Mobility Business & Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors, has confirmed that the Tata Altroz EV will hit Indian roads next year.
The electric hatchback will serve a different set of customer base than the Nexon EV. The company has designed its EVs to cater both personal and fleet buyers with different range and power performance.
The Tata Altroz EV was recently caught testing in the country. Similar to the Tata Nexon EV, the electric version of the hatchback will use the brand’s Ziptron electric technology. It has a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack that delivers power to an electric motor generating 129bhp and 245Nm. It can do 0 to 60kmph and 0 to 100kmph in 4.6 seconds and 9.9 seconds respectively.
Similar to the regular model, the Tata Altroz EV will underpin the Alfa platform. Design elements and features will also be carried over from the petrol/diesel-power Altroz. Prices of the electric hatchback are estimated to start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
