Tata Aims To Cover 90% Market By 2022

Tata Motors will soon unveil an electric car based on the Alpha platform.

Tata Motors has some really big plans for the Indian market. The home-grown carmaker recently introduced one of its most premium offerings ever – Harrier – against cars like Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Mahindra XUV500. Priced between Rs 12.69 lakh – Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the SUV comes with a diesel engine paired to a manual gearbox.

At the launch event, Mayank Pareek, President of Passenger Vehicles Business at Tata Motors, has revealed the company’s plan to cover 90% of the market by 2022 with its new product portfolio. The carmaker is also ready to take the Tata Harrier to global markets. Though, nothing has been decided yet.

Tata’s next big launch of the year will be the 45X concept based premium hatchback. Rumour has it that the Tata 45X hatchback could be named Aquilla. Slated to go on sale this Diwali season, the hatchback will be the company’s first production car to feature Alpha platform.

The carmaker has also revealed that it will soon unveil an electric car based on the Alpha architecture that allows to place battery on the vehicle’s floor. The company hasn’t yet revealed the name and details of the electric vehicle,  but confirmed that it will “remind you of the E-Vision concept”.

The Tata Evision sedan concept was based on the Omega platform that first broke cover at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. In coming months, the carmaker will also introduce the 7-seater version of the Harrier – codenamed Taa HX7.
