Tata H5X SUV and 45X premium hatchback concepts were, undoubtedly, the two products that stole the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. While the former has been confirmed to early next year, the latter one might hit showrooms in the second half of 2019. We have already seen the H5X SUV multiple times during its testing rounds in the country. Now, the home-grown carmaker has also begun working on the 45X hatchback.
A completely camouflaged prototype of the Tata 45X has been caught on camera for the first time on the outskirts of Thane, Maharashtra. Similar to the concept, the spotted model features shapely designed window line dipping under the ORVMs and rising towards the rear. The rear door handles are integrated on the C-pillar as we have seen on the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift. The curve near the taillamp looks more pronounced compared to the concept version.
Interior pictures show the instrument cluster with two analogue dials surrounding a digital driver information display. The floating centre multimedia display seems to be borrowed from the Nexon compact SUV. However, there is no clarity whether the final production version of the hatchback will come with the same fitment or not.

The 45X premium hatchback will be Tata’s first vehicle to be based on its new ALFA (Agile Light Advanced Flexible) platform. It will also be among the first Tata cars to feature the brand’s new-generation IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. Read: Tata H7X SUV Under Development; To Challenge Fortuner
Engine details of the new Tata hatchback are unknown to us. If media reports are to be believed, the hatchback might share its powertrains with the Nexon – i.e. a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel. Both the manual and automatic gearboxes are likely to be offered on the vehicle.
