Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited 45X concept based hatchback in India. Scheduled to be launched in mid-2019, the Tata 45X production model will challenge the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. A latest report from Team-BHP suggests that the upcoming premium hatchback will be benefitted with a mild-hybrid system.

Likely to be called Aquilla, the Tata 45X will be available with 2 engine options – 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The report claims that the petrol version will come equipped with ISG – Integrated Starter Generator, which is a mild-hybrid system. The very similar technology is currently available in a range of Maruti cars. When the car is in neutral and with the release of the clutch, the engine will automatically switch off. With pressing clutch, the engine will automatically switch on.

However, this mild-hybrid system won’t be offered with the diesel version. The diesel version is reportedly to be benefitted with cruise control function. It is expected that the digital tachometer will be sourced from the Harrier.

The report further claims that Tata 45X will come with high-quality material and top-notch fit and finish. It will also have top-notch build quality. Tata is also working on a dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is likely to debut in the new 45X premium hatchback.

The Tata 45X premium hatchback will mark the debut of the brand’s new Alfa modular platform, which will also underpin the micro SUV Vision Hornbill and all-new mid-sized sedan. It is expected that the near-production version of the 45X will debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March.
