Maruti Suzuki Vitara SUV Launching Next Year; To Challenge Hyundai Creta

Suzuki Vitara India Launch

Set to rival Hyundai Creta, the new Maruti Vitara SUV will challenge Hyundai Creta & Renault Duster.

Riding high on the success of Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki is now planning to launch its global SUV – Suzuki Vitara in the Indian market. To be positioned above the Brezza, the SUV will be launched in India by the end of next year. According to NDTVAuto, the SUV measuring 4.175 meters in length will challenge the Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta. It is expected that the SUV could be showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2018.

Previous reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki is also working on a 7-seater premium SUV, which will challenge the likes of Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV500. The global Vitara is powered by a 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol and 1.6-litre Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engines. It is expected that both engines will power the India-spec model as well. The turbocharged petrol engine is the same unit that also powers the Suzuki Swift Sport. This engine is capable of producing 140PS of power and 230Nm of torque. The Vitara SUV is expected to be more powerful than its rivals in India.

The diesel engine is the same that also powers the previous S-Cross crossover. This 1.6-litre multijet diesel engine is good for 120bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. Both engines will be coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Front-wheel-drive version will come as standard, while all-wheel-drive layout will be offered in the top-end models. We believe that Maruti will only launch the front-wheel-drive version of the SUV, as the AWD model will increase its cost. Also Read – Maruti Grand Vitara – All Details

It is expected that Maruti will offer 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox with petrol and diesel gearboxes. Set to rival Hyundai Creta, the compact SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. With this price tag, the Vitara will be slotted above the S-Cross.
