Suzuki Katana has finally made its way to India. The premium motorcycle has been priced at Rs 13.61 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The model comes in two paint jobs – Metallic Mystic Silver and Metallic Mat Stellar Blue. The bike carries neo-retro styling with features such as a hexagonal projector headlamp, LED DRLs (daytime running lights) and a short windscreen at the front. It has sharp creases and body panels enhancing its sporty looks.
The bike offers a muscular fuel tank, a single-piece contoured seat, coloured alloy wheels and a side-slung exhaust canister. At the back, there is a floating tail section and a rear tyre hugger. On the feature front, the new Katana offers a revised throttle-by-wire system, a reworked five-level traction control system and three ride modes along with an updated full digital instrument console with a new ‘night mode’.
Based on the twin-spar aluminium alloy frame, the Suzuki Katana uses a 43mm KYB inverted forks up front and a monoshock rear suspension. The latter has been tuned for adjustable rebound damping and spring preload. For performing braking duties, the new Suzuki bike has twin disc brakes at the front and a single disc brake at the rear.
Power for the bike comes from a 999cc, 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine that meets Euro 5 emission standards. The motor makes a top power of 150bhp at 11,000rpm and 106Nm of torque at 9,250rpm. Compared to its previous model, the updated Suzuki Katana is around 2bhp more powerful. Power is delivered to rear wheels via a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox with an upgraded slip and assist clutch. The new Katana’s Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) has also been upgraded. Now, the unit has bidirectional quick-shifter as standard fitment.
