Suzuki Jimny Long 5-Door Debut Soon – New Details Emerge

The long-wheelbase 5-door version of the long-awaited Suzuki Jimny is finally getting close to its launch in the market. Suzuki has started testing the new Jimny LWB in Europe. Wrapped in covers, the prototypes were caught with definitive bodywork. A new media report claims that the new 5-door model will be called the Suzuki Jimny Long.

Previous media reports claim that the Suzuki Jimny Long will be based on the Sierra. It will have 300mm longer wheelbase and the length will be increased by 300mm. The leaked documents reveal that the new Jimny Long will measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height. It will have a wheelbase of 2,550mm, while the ground clearance stands at 210mm. The SUV is reportedly to have a kerb weight of 1,190kg, which is 100kgs higher than the 3-door Sierra.

The pictures clearly reveal the shape of the doors and the addition of a small rear porthole window. The new Suzuki Jimny Long will be restyled and will come with new design highlights, which will also be applied to the 3-door variant. The major changes will be made to the front fascia, featuring the brand’s new design language.

The new Suzuki Jimny Long is expected to get re-designed bumper, grille, alloy wheels and internal door panels. The cabin is likely to remain largely identical; however, it is likely to get an updated infotainment system and new graphics on the instrument cluster. The long wheelbase version of the Jimny will offer seat for 5 adults. In fact, the boot space is also expected to grow significantly from the current 85-litres.

Suzuki Jimny Long Specs

The new model is expected to be powered by the Brezza’s 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid tech. This engine is capable of producing 103bhp and a peak torque of 137Nm. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. This engine currently powers the new Brezza, which is now claimed to offer 20.15kmpl with manual gearbox and 19.80kmpl with automatic transmission.

The European-spec model will also receive a light-hybrid engine and is expected to meet the new anti-pollution regulations. This will solve the problem that the current model’s face, which is only offered for the commercial usage. The European launch is expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2022. The India-spec model is expected to be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in January.
