As per the official statement released by Euro NCAP, the Suzuki Ignis’ passenger compartment remained stable in the offset deformable front impact crash test.

India-bound Suzuki Ignis has secured a 3-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test, results of which have been revealed today. While with the optional safety pack, the Ignis scored a 5-star rating. Both the tested variants feature six airbags, though we think that the India-bound model will only have two airbags.

As per the official statement released by Euro NCAP, the Suzuki Ignis’ passenger compartment remained stable in the offset deformable front impact crash test. Also the keens and femurs of the dummy, put in the test, indicated good protection.

“Compression of the driver dummy’s chest indicated weak protection of this part of the body and injury parameters for the lower legs revealed marginal protection. In the full width rigid barrier test, protection of the chest was rated as marginal for both the driver and the rear passenger side dummy, as was the head protection for the rear dummy. In the side barrier impact, the Ignis scored full points with good protection of all critical body regions. Even in the more severe side pole test, protection of the chest was adequate and that of other body areas was good.” reads the statement released by Euro NCAP on the test results of the Suzuki Ignis.

Coming to the India-bound Maruti Suzuki Ignis, it will be launched in the second week of January 2016 with a choice of two engine options. There will be a 1.2-litre petrol mill and a 1.3-litre diesel unit, both of which power the current Swift. The model coming to India might be offered in both a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox. Rumour has it that there could also be an AMT-equipped version.

Though no official word on its pricing as of now, we expect the Ignis to fall in the range of Rs 5 lakh – Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
