Scheduled to be launched in 2019, the new Suzuki Gixxer 250cc motorcycle will challenge the Yamaha FZ25 and the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 250

We informed you earlier that Suzuki is working on a 250cc naked motorcycle for the Indian market. The Japanese brand had the Inazuma 250 in India, but due to high pricing and unusual styling it failed to live up to the company’s expectation and eventually phased out. It seems like Suzuki has finally a 250cc motorcycle for Indian market. According to the AutoCarIndia, the company will launch an all-new 250cc naked streetfighter in the Indian market next year.

The report further suggests that Suzuki could use the popular Gixxer nameplate for the 250cc motorcycle. The Gixxer brand is now a strong and recognisable name among buyers and naming the 250cc motorcycle under this brand could bring immediate success. It seems like Suzuki is following Yamaha’s strategy. Yamaha had launched the Fazer 25 last year, which received excellent response from buyers. A 250cc motorcycle under Gixxer nameplate could attract the existing Gixxer buyers. Read – Suzuki Burgman Street 125 Launched In India

Similar to the Yamaha, Suzuki will launch the naked streetfighter which will be followed by a faired variant. It is expected that the Suzuki Gixxer 250 could share design cues from the premium Suzuki GSX-S750 and the GSX-S1000, which are already on sale in India. The vehicle could also share some visual elements from the upcoming Suzuki GSX-S300. The India-spec model will follow the Gixxer 150 design approach and will have features like LED headlight and tail-light and all-digital instrument cluster. Unlike global model, the India-spec Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be powered by a 250cc, single-cylinder engine. This motor is likely to get a 4-valve head, and will use an oil-cooler instead of liquid-cooling. Power output is expected in the range of 22-25bhp. These figures will put it somewhere between the Yamaha FZ25 and the Honda CBR250R. The motorcycle could get a six-speed gearbox, which should add to its touring ability.

The new model will use the Gixxer 150 platform, but it will be modified and strengthened for bigger engine and increased weight. Telescopic forks at the front and monoshock unit at the rear will help the automaker to achieve aggressive pricing. The bike could also receive a dual-channel ABS system. The new motorcycle is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 1.4 – 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom), which will be slightly higher compared to the Yamaha FZ25. For people not in the know, the FZ25 will also receive ABS system which will surely increase its prices by about 10,000. Adding to it, Bajaj is also working on a 250cc Pulsar for Indian market. The new Pulsar 250 is likely to be launched in the second half of 2019.
