4. Maruti Future S Concept
The next important model in our list of new SUVs at Auto Expo 2018 is the Maruti Suzuki Future S concept. This mini SUV concept previews the company’s future entry-level crossover, which will be positioned below the Maruti Vitara Brezza. Featuring SUV-like stance and bold presence, the new model will go up against the Renault Kwid 1.0L, Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Hyundai’s upcoming small car (Santro successor).
The new Future S compact SUV comes with an upright stance and sloping-type roofline, which we have already seen on some premium crossovers. The model seems inspired from Suzuki’s CrossHiker concept, which was revealed in 2012. The Future S features commanding higher seating and ground clearance, while the horizontal hood give it an aggressive stance. The SUV has newly designed headlamps with LED DRLs that merges with thin chrome grille.
The model will be around 200mm shorter than the Vitara Brezza, but features like vertical A-pillar and high-bonnet line gives it a traditional SUV-stance. The new model will be based on Suzuki’s lightweight “HEARTECT” platform that also underpins the Swift and Dzire. It is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine producing 82bhp and 113Nm of torque. The company could also opt for 1.0-litre engine that is good for 67bhp and 91Nm of torque. For transmission duties, the small car could get a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
