Strom R3 will be India’s most affordable electric car with up to 120km of range on full charge.
With major push to electric automobiles, auto manufacturers are started working on their electric vehicles. However, mainstream automakers are struggling to achieve competitive pricing for their electric cars. Interestingly, small players are taking the lead in building affordable electric cars in India. One such example is the latest entrant in the electric vehicle space – Strom Motors. This Mumbai-based player has launched its first electric car offering – the Strom R3.
The Strom R3 is a two-door electric car with three wheels, which uses reverse trike configuration with single wheel at the rear and two wheels up front. This electric car is specifically designed and developed for urban traffic like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Bookings for the new Strom R3 electric car have already been commenced, and Strom Motors is claimed to have received around 30 pre-orders for the car. This model will be offered in three variants – Pure, Current and Bolt. The vehicle will be available with a starting price of Rs 3 lakh. The Strom R3 Pure and Current variants come with a standard range of up to 80km on full charge. The top-spec R3 Bolt offers a range of up to 120km as standard. It is powered by a 13kW (17.4bhp) high-efficiency motor that produces 48Nm of torque. This motor is coupled to an integrated single-speed planetary gearbox. With normal charger, the Strom R3 can be fully charged in about 6-8 hours. It also has optional fast charging to top up the battery to 80% in less than 2 hours. This car also uses electronic regenerative braking technology.
The Strom R3 is based on a high-strength steel space-frame chassis. For suspension duties, the vehicle gets MacPherson Struts at the front and dual-shock absorbers at the rear. Featuring an edgy design, the Strom R3 looks quite unique from exterior. It features a muscular front bumper, LED lights and dual-tone colors with a white roof, and a sunroof. This electric car will come in four exterior paint jobs – Electric Blue, Neon Blue, Red and Black. Dimensionally, the new Strom R3 is 2,907mm in length, 1,450 mm in width, and 1,572 mm in height, ans has a wheelbase of 2,012 mm.
The cabin of the car is good for 2 adults, as it is designed for city commute. The company is offering two seat layouts – two captain seats or a single bench seat for 3. It is equipped with a range of comfort features like air conditioning with climate control system, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and voice control UI. This infotainment is compatible with FM/USB system with optional 20 GB onboard music storage, maps + navigation support, WiFi/3G data connectivity option, etc. Other features include remote keyless entry, rear camera, power windows and 3-point seats. It also gets a remote assisted parking system which lets the driver park the car in tight spots using their phones.
