SsangYong, the South Korean automaker has announced an all-new SUV concept – SsangYong XAVL which is scheduled to make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The company has also released a couple of renderings of the concept SUV, revealing some of its design elements. As a reminder, the SsangYong XAV Adventure concept suggests a smaller SUV that is likely to enter into production in 2018. On the other hand, the SsangYong XAVL concept is a bigger model positioned between the Tivoli and the Rexton. The XAVL concept is inspired by the second generation SsangYong Korando SUV, which was launched in 1990. In the name XAVL stands for ‘eXciting Authentic Vehicle Long (SUV). It will be a seven-seat mid-size SUV, which will rival the Skoda Kodiaq, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
The company hasn’t revealed the dimensions and other details of the SUV. According to the SsangYong, the XAVL concept has a wider inner space featuring a user-friendly interface that includes connected car technology and digital display. The concept also gets several high-end safety and security features to protect occupants and pedestrians as well. It will also come with petrol and new clean diesel engine options.
Interestingly, Mahindra is also working on an all-new compact SUV which will be based on the Tivoli concept. A production version of the XAV SUV could be the right product to rival the Hyundai Creta & Ford EcoSport. Adding to it, Mahindra will launch an all-new premium SUV which is expected to be a rebadged next-generation SsangYong Rexton. As you know, the next-gen Rexton was previewed as the SsangYong LIV-2 concept at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
