2014 Mahindra SsangYong Rexton RX6 launching soon

SsangYong made its entry into the Indian market in 2012 by launching the Rexton SUV. The vehicle is directly pitched against the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. At the time of launch, the Rexton was available in two variants- the RX5 and the RX7. While the former is the cheapest Rexton available with manual gearbox, the RX7 is the top spec model offered with an automatic transmission gearbox. Now, the company is gearing up to introduce the mid-level variant Rexton RX6 to fill the huge void between the two models.

On the exteriors, the Rexton RX6 SUV looks identical to the other variants. At the front, the vehicle gets large chrome grille which is flanked by swept-back headlamps equipped with daytime running lights. The rear profile of the SUV has wrap around windscreen and LED tail lamps add to its sporty character. It rides on the 16-inch alloy wheels which looks a bit smaller relative to its overall size.

The RX6 source several advanced features from the higher spec RX7 automatic variant. Inside the cabin, the vehicle gets all-new leather seats and leather wrapped steering wheel. It gets an 8-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat. Moreover, this model also features memory seats and rear view mirrors. It also comes with a new touchscreen infotainment system with an inbuilt GPS system, while an electronic sunroof that has both tilt and open functions.

The SsangYong Rexton RX6 SUV is powered by a 2.7-litre, turbocharged ‘RX270 XDi’ diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 164PS and 340Nm of top torque. This engine is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox. The manual version of the SUV features a 4-wheel drive ‘Torque on Demand’ system, which sends the power to front wheels on demand.

The Rexton RX6 is loaded with several advanced technological features. This model is equipped with driver assist system such as ESP (Electronic Stability Program), Anti-Slip Regulation, active rollover protection, hill decent system and others, which make it a good off-road product.

The Mahindra SsangYong Rexton RX6 is expected to be priced around Rs. 21 lakh, which makes it a good product to drive home. The vehicle is likely to be launched in a couple of next year.
