Sportier New Honda City RS Variant is Not Coming to India

New Honda City RS Launch

Japanese automaker, Honda is gearing up for the launch of the next-gen City sedan in the Indian market. The sedan is already on sale in Thailand, where it is available with 2 petrol engine options. It is being offered with 2 engines including a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol.

It was speculated that the India-spec City will also receive the performance oriented RS variant; however, Honda has decided to not launch this model in India. The Thailand-spec model gets a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the global Civic hatchback. This engine will be used in various global models including the next-gen Honda HR-V. Paired to a CVT automatic unit, the engine produces 120bhp of power and 200Nm of torque.

The new-gen Honda City will be offered with 2 BSVI compliant engines including a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel. While the former is good for 118bhp of power and 145Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 99bhp and 200Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
