New Volkswagen passat

Volkswagen has been working on an all-new Passat sedan, which is likely to be introduced by the end of 2015. The 2016 Passat has been spotted during its test mule in Europe. The new model is specifically developed to cater the European buyers.

The spy pictures show that the new Passat is bigger in size compared to the current generation model. The new model will be based on Volkswagen’s popular Modular Transversal Matrix (MQB) platform on which many cars from Audi, Skoda and other Volkswagen group companies. The front fascia of the sedan resembles the new Golf and its headlamps are equipped with LEDs.

It is expected that the new Passat will be lighter than the current model, thanks to new MQB platform and better quality materials. For European buyers, this model will get a wide range of engines, like the TSI, TDI, highly efficient BlueMotion, e-drive pure electrics and plug-in hybrids. In India, the vehicle is likely to carry over the same 2.0-litre diesel unit, which is coupled to a six-speed manual or the six-speed DSG.

Volkswagen India has recently phased out the Passat sedan owing to its decreasing sales in the market. However, the company will launch the new generation model in the country. The exact launch date of the new Passat is yet to be confirmed, but we expect it to be launched by the late 2015. It will compete against the likes of new Skoda Superb, new generation Honda Accord and others.
