Mahindra is gearing up to launch a series of new sub-compact and compact SUVs including S101, U301 and new Quanto. Ahead of its official launch in 2015, the S101 compact SUV has been spotted testing again on Indian roads. The fresh spyshots reveal that the sub-compact SUV features a bench type seat at the front, which can accommodate 3 adults including the driver. Mahindra engineers are testing the prototype to suit real world driving conditions.
The spotted compact SUV is equipped with fog lamps; however, the lights appear like dummy units. The S101 will feature both petrol and diesel fuel options. The gasoline version would get a brand new 1.2-litre unit, which is developed by Mahindra-Ssangyong’s joint venture. Its oil burner is the 1.5-litre 3-cylinder unit that is capable of producing a top power output of 98.6bhp and a peak torque of 240Nm. Both petrol and diesel engines are likely to feature the front wheel drive layout and five-speed manual transmission as standard. It is also expected to get AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) as an optional.
The S101 compact SUV will be based on an all-new monocoque platform developed by the company. The compact SUV will rival the B-segment hatchbacks including the Maruti Swift, Hyundai Elite i20 and others. The Mahindra S101 is likely to be priced in the range of Rs. 5-7 lakh.
