We reported earlier that Volkswagen will launch the Polo facelift in the Indian car market. Barely camouflaged VW Polo facelift has been spotted during its test rounds in the country; giving us the glimpses of new features & changes given to the hatchback. Unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the vehicle is already put on sale in select European nations. The updated Polo is expected to be launched in India in July, 2014.
The new Volkswagen Polo features the same body structure; however, the company has slightly tweaked the front fascia to distinguish it from the current model. At the front, the vehicle gets restyled bumper, a new fog lamp assembly and a new grille with single chrome bar. The grille is complemented by reworked headlamps which now get silver detailing. The European spec model has LED headlamps, though the spotted vehicle doesn’t sport this feature. We expect that VW India will offer LED headlights as an optional feature or the top spec model might get this feature as standard. The rear profile features a newly styled bumper and tail lamps. Its flared wheel arches have been fitted to new alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin, the updated hatchback features small changes which make it look refreshing. The Volkswagen Polo facelift gets new steering wheel with piano black detailing and repositioned controls add to its premium feel. The reworked dashboard comes with matte silver embellishments on the centre console. The infotainment system and controls seems to be unchanged.
The new Volkswagen Polo will continue to be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the petrol version will continue to feature the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder motor for the standard model and 1.2-litre 4-cylinder, turbocharged mill for the GT TSI variant. The company is likely to ditch the 1.2-litre TDI and 1.6-litre engine in favour of a new 1.5-litre motor. This engine is capable of developing two states of tune- 89bhp and 104bhp.
