Skoda Sunroq Is The Convertible SUV Based On India-Bound Karoq

Called the ‘Skoda Sunroq’, the new convertible SUV concept is designed by students at the Skoda Vocational School.

Czech automaker, Skoda has unveiled a new cabriolet based on the India-bound Skoda Karoq SUV. Called the ‘Skoda Sunroq’, the new convertible SUV concept is designed by students at the Skoda Vocational School. A team of 23 students have developed this drop-top SUV in just 8 months. The students removed the roof and reconstructed the doors, redesigned the A and B pillars, and completely changed the rear-end. Adding to it, the concept comes with modified bumpers featuring re-positioned Skoda logos.

The Skoda Sunroq convertible SUV is wrapped in aVelvet Red body paint. It rides on newly developed 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero 235/35 ZR20 tyres. Skoda Academy branding can be seen on the front door panels and front-seat backrests. The cabin has a dual-tone chick interior that comes with a combination of white and red. In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Sunroq convertible is identical to the Karoq. It measures 4.38 meters in length and 1.81 meters in width and has a wheelbase of 2.64 meters. The suspension unit is shared with the Skoda Octavia RS, and it sits much lower compared to the SUV sibling. Powering the Sunroq is a 1.5-litre TSI turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 150PS of power at 5,000-6,000rpm and a peak torque of 250Nm between 1,500-3,500rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in just 8.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 195kmph. The Skoda Sunroq is unlikely to enter into the production line in near future. Talking about Karoq, the company will launch the Sportline and Scout variants in international markets. Skoda is also planning to launch this SUV in India in 2019. In fact, the SUV has been imported for testing and R&D purposes. Besides Karoq, Skoda is also working on heavily localised MQB AO IN platform. This platform will be used to develop future Volkswagen and Skoda cars in India.
