In July 2020, Skoda Auto had introduced a new Rapid Rider variant with additional paint schemes and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Priced at Rs 7.49 lakh, the model undercut all its midsize sedan rivals and became an instant hit. In fact, its demand exceeded the brand’s expectations and the company temporarily halted its bookings in December last year. Now, the carmaker has re-introduced the entry-level Skoda Rapid Rider variant at Rs 7.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
The 2021 Skoda Rapid Rider uses the same 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The motor returns a claimed power of 108bhp and 175Nm of torque. The model offers an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 18.97kmpl. The Rapid sedan also comes with a 6-speed automatic gearbox that delivers a claimed mileage of 16.24kmpl.
In terms of features, the 2021 Skoda Rapid Rider offers 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, USB and Aux connectivity, 4 speakers, automatic climate control, power adjustable wind mirrors, rear AC vents, power windows with one-touch up/down function, rake and reach adjust for steering wheel, 12V charging socket at the front and rear, front and rear centre armrests, adjustable headrests front and rear and height adjustable front seatbelts.
On the safety front, the model gets dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS (anti-lock braking system), remote central locking and rear defogger. Some of its design bits including halogen headlamps, 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, side foils, scuff plate, trunk lip garnish and more. The 2021 Skoda Rapid Rider has been offered in two colour schemes – Carbon Steel and Candy White.
In coming weeks, the Czech carmaker will unveil its upcoming Skoda Kushaq mid-size SUV that will challenge the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. Its production-ready model is likely to hit roads in the second quarter of 2021. Based on the MQB A0 IN platform, the SUV is likely to come with the 108bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol and 147bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol engine options.
