The long-awaited Skoda Karoq has finally been launched in the Indian market. The new mid-sized premium MPV is available in a single fully-loaded variant, which is available at a price tag of Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Interested buyers can book the new Karoq online or at Skoda dealership by paying an initial token amount of Rs 50,000.
What’s Under The Hood?
The new Skoda Karoq SUV is available in a single petrol engine with automatic gearbox option. It is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder TSI petrol engine that is capable of producing 148bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. This is the same engine that also powers the Volkswagen T-ROC. The new Karoq is claimed to achieve 0 to 100kmph in 9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 220kmph. Unlike the global model that comes with 4X4 drivetrain, the India-spec version comes with FWD (front-wheel-drive) system.It is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 14.41kmpl.
The new Skoda Karoq is available in 6 exterior colour options – Lava Blue, Candy White, Magic Black, Quartz Grey, Brilliant Silver, Magic Black and Magnetic Brown.
The new Skoda Karoq SUV directly rivals the Hyundai Tucson and the high-end variants of the Jeep Compass. It also rivals the entry-level Honda CR-V petrol, which is now available in 5-seat version only.
The new Karoq is based on the Volkswagen Group’s versatile MQB platform, which also underpins the VW T-ROC, Tiguan and the Skoda Kodiaq. It is the brand’s global mid-sized SUV, which is on sale in several global markets. The new model measures 4.382mm in length, 1,814mm in width and 1,605mm in height. The SUV sits on 2,638mm long wheelbase, while the ground clearance stands at 200mm. The new model sits right between the T-ROC and the Tiguan in terms of proportions.It offers a boot space of 521-litres, which can be further extended up to 1,810-litres by folding the rear seats.
The new Karoq is the Skoda’s global model and has been launched as a CKD model. The SUV has all the safety and security features, which are available in the global model. In Euro NCAP, the Skoda Karoq achieved 5 star safety rating. It secured 93% in adult occupant protection and 79% in child occupant protection and 78% in pedestrian protection.
In terms of safety and security features, the new Skoda Karoq gets 9 airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), ParkTronic system, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution) and Brake Assist, tyre pressure monitoring, traction control, hill start assist and many more.
The new Skoda Karoq is equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience features. The feature list includes LED ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, virtual cockpit, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, all LED headlamps, LED rear lights, etc. The Karoq features a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. The new mid-sized SUV gets digital instrument console, Bluetooth telephony, navigation reverse camera, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and many more.
