Skoda has some really big plans for the Indian market. For 2020, the Czech carmaker has planned 4 new cars including all-new models and facelifts. Speaking to Autocar, Zac Hollis, Director, Sales, Service and Marketing, Skoda India has confirmed that the company will bring in the Skoda Karoq SUV in April, 2020. Here, it will put up against the MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass.
The all-new Skoda Karoq will be brought via Completely Built Unit (CBU) route under the government’s new import rules that allows a company to import 2,500 units annually without any local homologation process.
Powering the India-spec Skoda Karoq will be a BS6-compliant 1.5L TSI turbocharged petrol engine generating power around 150bhp. Transmission duties will be performed by a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The carmaker might introduce the diesel powertrain at a later stage.
