Skoda Karoq SUV recently made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2020. Set to take on the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson, the new SUV from the Czech automaker will be launched under Skoda’s ‘India2.0’ project in April, 2020. Here, it will be brought via CBU (Completely Built Unit) route under the government’s new import rule that allows manufacturers to import up to 2,500 units annually without any local homologation procedure.

Design-wise, the Skoda Karoq looks like a baby Kodiaq with similar sharp creases and details. The SUV rides on large 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and get all LED lighting. Interior is well-equipped with lots of soft-touch materials and neatly designed dashboard. The elevated seating position will provide better visibility. The rear seats will offer adequate space.

For connectivity purpose, the Karoq offers an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink support. It has virtual cockpit with features such as a panoramic sunroof, 12-way electrically adjustable driver seat with memory function, dual-zone climate control, Stone Beige leather seats and ambient lighting. The new Skoda SUV offers protection of nine airbags. Beside this, it comes equipped with electronic stability control, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), a ParkTronic system and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

In India, the Skoda Karoq will be made available with a BS6-compliant 1.5L, TSI direct injection, turbocharged petrol engine. The gasoline motor pushes out a peak power of 148bhp between 5,000-6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 250Nm between 1,500-3,500rpm. There will be no diesel engine option. For performing transmission duties, the SUV gets a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The Karoq is capable to achieve sprint from 0-100kmph in 9 seconds. It offers a maximum speed of 202kmph. While the global model comes with 4X4 drivetrain system, the India-spec version will be offered with the FWD (front-wheel-drive) only.
