Skoda Kamiq SUV Likely Debut at Auto Expo 2020 – Launch Details

It is no secret that Volkswagen Group is planning big for the Indian car market. Skoda is leading the VW Group’s India Plan 2.0, which includes local development of global MQB platform, technologies and products. We reported earlier that Skoda and Volkswagen will participate in the 2020 Auto Expo and expected to showcase its new product line-up for the market.

Skoda India boss has already confirmed that Karoq SUV will be launched in the first half of 2020. Adding to it, the Kamiq compact SUV will arrive in our market in early 2021. Both these models are most likely to be unveiled at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The Skoda Karoq will arrive in our market as a CKD unit, which will be assembled at the company’s Aurangabad facility.

The Skoda Kamiq for the Indian market will be different from the international markets. The India-spec SUV will ride on a longer wheelbase, and it will be longer and wider than the global model. The longer wheelbase liberates more space inside the cabin and the increased boot space. The new Skoda Kamiq will be based on the locally developed MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the India-spec VW T-Cross compact SUV, new gen Rapid and the new Vento. The Skoda Kamiq will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and the Kia Seltos. Globally, the Kamiq is available with a wide range of petrol and diesel powertrains including a 1.5-litre turbo petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.6-litre TDI diesel. The India-spec model is expected to be powered by a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The company could also introduce the petrol CNG hybrid version in the country.

The Skoda Kamiq SUV will be equipped with several high-end features including a large 9.2-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The SUV also gets a 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit with digital instruments. Features such as a multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control and leather seat upholstery along with over 20 ‘Simply Clever’ features are also on offer.
