Volkswagen owned Skoda has officially announced their new project – India 2.0. The company has announced the development of the new MQB A0 IN platform for India. First model based on this heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform will be launched in 2020. Under INDIA 2.0 project, VW Group will enter into the second phase in the country. Most of the development and technical work of this new platform will take place locally.

The MQB A0 platform, which underpins the new-gen Polo, is expensive for Indian market. The new platform will be the heavily localised derivative of this platform. With local components, the company would aim to achieve lower production costs. Skoda also said that they will keep climatic conditions and local requirements in mind while developing the new platform in India. The company will specifically pay attention to the temperature range of the air-conditioning and the interior requirements.
Adding to it, Skoda will launch the first product based on the Vision X concept in India. Codenamed SK 216, the new model will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the Nissan Kicks. Skoda Auto CEO, Bernhard Maier, said that “The company will present the first model based on the new MQB A0 IN platform as early as 2020.”
Volkswagen will also launch the T-Cross styled compact SUV in India, which will share mechanics and interior components from Skoda’s compact SUV. Following these two SUVs, a mid-sized sedan from Skoda will come. Volkswagen will also launch a mid-sized sedan in India, which will replace the Vento.
