September-October Will Be Action-packed – 13 Confirmed Car Launches

Sales figures of July 2020 showed sign of revive for the Indian automobile industry. With an aim to further boost sales, several carmakers are ready to push new products in the market. Here’s a look at the top 13 confirmed car launches that are scheduled to happen during 2020 festive season.   

1. Ford Figo Petrol Automatic (End of August)

Ford India will reintroduce the petrol automatic variant to the Figo hatchback model lineup. The 1.2L Figo will receive a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, sourced from the EcoSport. The new automatic transmission will offer better throttle response at the low engine speed. The new Ford Figo petrol automatic variant might also be offered with paddleshifters.

2. Renault Duster Turbo (August or September)

Renault unveiled the more powerful petrol version Duster compact SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. The model comes powered by a 1.3L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine paired to a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. Minor changes have also been made including the front grille with red accents, newly designed fog lamps, fatter roof rails, new colour logo and lesser cladding at the rear. Its price is likely to be around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. Toyota Innova Crysta CNG (August – September)

Toyota Innova Crysta will soon be introduced with CNG kit in the country. The MPV’s bi-fuel model, that’s likely to be based on the entry-level G trim, will be Rs 80,000 – 1 lakh more expensive than the petrol variant. The model will come with a 166PS, 2.7L petrol engine with a CNG kit. The powertrain will be made available with manual gearbox only. No other changes are likely to be made to the model.

4. Kia Sonet (September)

Kia Sonet is ready to make global debut in India on coming 7th August, followed by its launch in September. In fact, its pre-bookings have been commenced at dealership level. The subcompact SUV will come in two trims (GT Line and HT Line) and three engine options – a 1.0L turbo petrol with iMT and DCT gearbox options, 82bhp, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 99bhp, 1.5L diesel.

5. Toyota Urban Cruiser (September)

Toyota has confirmed that its next big launch will be the Urban Cruiser compact SUV. It will be the second rebadged Maruti Suzuki model from the Japanese carmaker in the country. Major cosmetic changes are likely to be made model, while most of the features will be carried over from the Vitara Brezza. Under the hood, the SUV will feature the 103bhp, 1.5L K-series SHVS petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

6. Audi Q2 (September)

The German luxury carmaker will bring in the Audi Q2 in India in the month of September. Based on Volkswagen Group’s MB platform, the SUV will use a 2.0L turbo petrol engine making 190bhp and 320Nm of torque. The SUV will come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and Audi’s Quattro AWD system. The Q2 will be Audi’s most affordable and smallest SUV in the country. It’s estimated to cost around Rs 35 lakh – Rs 40 lakh.

7. Skoda Rapid Automatic (September)

2020 Skoda Rapid automatic variant is ready to hit roads in the month of September. The sedan will come with the BS6-compliant 1.0L turbo petrol engine paired to a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The updated model of the Rapid was recently introduced in the price range of Rs 7.49 lakh – Rs 11.79 lakh (all, ex-showroom).

8. Tata Harrier Petrol (September – October)

Tata Motors will roll out the new petrol version of the Harrier SUV in coming months. The SUV will be powered by a new 1.5L turob petrol engine that’s likely to deliver power around 150bhp. The same powertrain will be used in the upcoming Tata Gravitas that’s reported to due for early next year. The automatic model might also receive paddle shifters with a ‘Sport’ mode. Design and features of the new petrol-automatic variant will remain unchanged.

9. Renault Kiger (October)

Renault India is all set to foray into the subcompact SUV space with the Kiger that’s slated to arrive by October, 2020. The model will share its platform, features and powertrain with the Triber MPV. Engine setup of the Kiger will include a 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol unit. While the former will be exclusively offered with a CVT automatic gearbox, the latter will come with manual transmission.

10. New-Gen Hyundai i20 (October)

The new-generation Hyundai i20 was slated to launch early this year. Though, its launch has been pushed to October, 2020. The premium hatchback will receive significant changes inside and out including new cascading grille, LED headlamps, Hyundai’ BlueLink connected car tech, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and more. The 2020 Hyundai i20 will come with three engine options – 99bhp, 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol, 82bhp, 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and 99bhp, 1.5L diesel.

11. New-Gen Mahindra Thar (October)

The home-grown carmaker has confirmed that the 2020 Mahindra Thar will have its world premiere on coming 15th August. Its official launch date is yet to be announced, though it’s reported to hit showrooms in October, 2020. The off-rod SUV will witness noticeable changes including several features for the first time such as forward facing rear seat, LED DRLs, factory-fitted hard top, automatic climate control, cruise control and more. The model will come with two engine options – an all-new 2.0L mStallion petrol and 2.2L mHawk diesel. Transmission choices will include both manual and automatic units.

12. New-Gen Force Gurkha (October)

The new-generation Force Grukha, that made its public debut at this year’s Auto Expo, will see a release in October, 2020. Visually, the SUV looks more rugged than before thanks to its new round headlamps with LED DRLs, updated bumpers and longer overhand upfront. Inside, the vehicle has a new dual-tone dashboard with integrated touchscreen infotainment system. One of the major update comes in a form of BS6-compliant 90bhp, 2.6L diesel engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

13. MG Gloster (October)

The British carmaker has confirmed that it will launch the Gloster premium 7-seater SUV during 2020 festive season (possibly in October). The SUV has massive body-built and derives its power from a new 2.0L turbo diesel engine. Transmission duties will be performed by a 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit. It will come with 4WD with a low range transfer case. The Gloster is essentially the rebadged version of the Maxus D90 that’s sold in the Chinese market.
