Royal Enfield’s Premium Electric Bike Range Under Development

Electric bike and scooter segment is getting momentum in the country. Manufacturers are setting up new production facilities and gearing up to expand their service and charging network across the country. In the past few months, we have witnessed several electric bikes and scooters launches including Gravton Quanta, Joy, Kridn, SVM Prana and more. Two-wheeler makers such as TVS, Ola, BMW Motorrad, Ather, Hero and Honda are ready to launch multiple new electric vehicles in coming months. Eicher Motors’ owned Royal Enfield will soon join the EV bandwagon with a range of new bikes to serve different set of customers. Announcing the Annual Report for 2020-21, Royal Enfield’s Managing Director Siddhartha Lal revealed that the company is strategically working on developing a range of premium electric bikes and services for global markets. The brand can leverage its product development and manufacturing capabilities along with establishing extensive distribution network.

Royal Enfield’s electrification will be an integral part of its comprehensive Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) vision. In fact, the brand’s two manufacturing facilities have been certified water positive by improving their energy consumption and waste management systems. Gradually, the company will increase its renewable energy component as well.

Earlier, Vinod Dasari, Chief Executive Officer, Royal Enfield had revealed that the company prepared the electric bikes’ prototypes. The internal team at the brand’s UK based R&D centre developed products and selected the right segment to enter into the electric space. The upcoming Royal Enfield electric bikes will be based on a new electric platform and are likely to be equipped with the latest connectivity features.

Royal Enfield’s first electric bike concept is reported to debut at the 2021 EICMA motor show. Its India launch might take place sometime in 2022 or 2023. As of now, the two-wheeler maker is gearing up to launch the new-generation Royal Enfield Classic 350 with significant design and mechanical changes. The 2021 RE Classic 350 is likely to hit roads near around the upcoming festive season.
