Royal Enfield Shotgun Name Patented: New 650cc Cruiser Bike?

Royal Enfield is readying a wide range of new motorcycles ranging from 350cc to 650cc. The company will soon launch the new generation Classic 350, which will be followed by a new 350cc Tourer. The 350cc Tourer is expected to be called the Royal Enfield Hunter. Adding to it, the company is also testing new 650cc cruisers.

The company has registered multiple new names in the recent times including the Flying Flea, Roadster, Hunter and Sherpa. And, the Royal Enfield Shotgun is the latest to be patented in India. The Shotgun refers to a smoothbore shoulder weapon which is capable of firing shots at short ranges.’ It is expected that the Royal Enfield Shotgun could be the brand’s new 650cc cruiser motorcycle, which has been caught testing several times on Indian roads.

Royal Enfield is currently testing two different 650cc cruisers. One model will have typical  low-slung typical-cruiser like profile, while the other one comes with modern styling and relatively sportier stance with mid-set footpegs.

Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser – What To Expect?

The spy images reveal that the new motorcycle will have round headlamps along with large visor for wind protection, slender fuel tank and alloy wheels. The motorcycle is expected to ride on longer wheelbase compared to the Continental GT and Interceptor 650. It will have split seats, a twin-pipe exhaust system, rounded tail-lamps and turn indicators, and fatter rear fender. It will have forward-set foot pegs and a wider handlebar.

The Royal Enfield Shotgun is expected to feature a typical cruiser-like large 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel with thick profile tyres. It will have USD (Upside-Down) front forks and conventional twin shock absorbers at the rear. For braking, the cruiser will get disc brakes, dual-channel ABS system and slipper clutch with assist.

The upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc cruiser is expected to be powered by a 649cc twin-cylinder engine, which also powers the Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650. This engine is capable of producing 47PS of maximum power and 52Nm of peak torque. Power will be transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox.
