Royal Enfield Meteor Vs Jawa 42 – Which One Is Better?

Royal Enfield is ready to launch the all-new RE Meteor 350 motorcycle in the country. It’s essentially the new-generation model of the Thunderbird 350 X featuring an all-new platform, a more refined engine and better features and styling. Once launched, the RE Meteor will go up against the Jawa and Jawa 42. Let’s take a look at some of the key differences between Royal Enfield Meteor and Jawa 42.

– The Chennai based bikemaker hasn’t yet revealed prices of its upcoming new 350cc motorcycle.  According to the leaked information, the Meteor will come in three variants – Fireball, Stellar and Supernova. The entry-level Fireball model is estimated to cost around Rs 1.65 lakh.

– The Jawa and Jawa 42, on the other hand, are available at Rs 1.73 lakh and Rs 1.60 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom.

– Powering the new RE Meteor will be a 350cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled fuel injected engine paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The motor will produce a maximum power of 20.2bhp and 27Nm of torque. While the new engine is said to deliver high torque on low rpm, the new gearbox unit has light clutch action with smoother operations.

– Jawa motorcycles derive power from a 293cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that pushes out a peak power of 27bhp and 28Nm of torque. Its compression ratio stands at 11:1 with bore and stroke of 70mmx90mm. Both models have a constant mesh 6-speed transmission.

– That means, the Jawa motorcycles will be slightly more powerful and torquier than the upcoming RE Meteor 350.

– As per the leaked information, the Meteor measures 2140mm in length, 1140mm in height and offers a seat height of 765mm. It sits on 1400mm long wheelbase and has a ground clearance of 170mm. The bike’s fuel tank capacity stands at 15-littres.

– The new RE 350cc bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch alloy wheels that shod at 100/90 and 140/70 Ceat/Ace tyres respectively.

– The overall length and height of the Jawa 42 stand at 1365mm (wheel-to-wheel) and 1165mm respectively. It has a wheelbase of 1369mm and a seat height of 765mm. It offers a fuel tank capacity of 14-litres, which is slightly less than the Meteor.

– The Jawa bike comes fitted with 18-inch 90/90 tyres at the front and 17-inch 120/80 tyres at the rear.

– For performing damping duties, the RE Meteor 350 has 41mm telescopic forks with 130mm travel upfront and adjustable twin springs suspension at the rear. The stopping power comes from 300mm and 270mm single disc front and rear brakes respectively. The bike gets dual-channel ABS as standard feature.

– On the other hand, the Jawa and Jawa 42 have been equipped with telescopic hydraulic forks at the front and twin shock hydraulic with gas canister at the rear. Its braking system includes a 280mm disc with a floating caliper and ABS at the front and 153mm drum brakes at the rear.

– Features of the RE Meteor 350 will vary variant-wise. The entry-level Fireball variant features body graphics and decals, blacked out components and a monotone fuel tank. The Stellar trim gets body coloured components with chrome accents on handlebars and a back rest for pillion rider. The top-spec Supernova model comes with machine cut alloy wheels, a revised seat and a windscreen.

– All variants of the upcoming RE 350cc motorcycle will be equipped with turn-by-turn navigation called ‘Tripper Navigation’ and Bluetooth connectivity. The list of features also includes a new digital analogue instrument cluster, LCD display for instrument cluster and USB charging.

– Design of the new Jawa motorcycles is inspired by the original Jawa, thus featuring the same bodywork and styling.

– Some of its key features include contrasting matte-finish with hints of chrome, rear view mirrors placed at the end of handlebars, a full covering headlamp cowl, twin-pea shooter exhausts, bulbous fuel tank, single flat seat, ‘waterfall’ tyre taillight, round indicators and a single-pod instrument cluster.

– The Meteor Fireball base variant will come in Yellow and Red paint schemes and the mid-level Stellar can be had in three shades – Red Metallic, Metallic Gloss Blue and Matte Black. The top-end Supernova variant will be offered in two dual-tone colours of Blue and Brown.

– The Jawa 42 has been made available 6 colour schemes, namely, Galactic Green, Hally’s Teal, Starlight Blue, Nebula Blue, Comet Red and Lumos Lime.
