Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric Bike Under Development

Royal Enfield is getting ready to foray into the electric two-wheeler space in coming years. According to a fresh media report, the company is working the electric iteration of the RE Himalayan adventure motorcycle. The model is currently in its initial development phase and might have its world premiere in its concept avatar in 2025 or 2026. The final production-ready version of the Royal Enfield electric bike will take a good time to hit showrooms. It’s likely to be priced quite premium.

The report further states that the Chennai-based two-wheeler maker will adopt a “top-down approach” for its upcoming electric bikes. That means, the company will first roll out its flagship EV that will preview the brand’s “new technology and design”. It will also create a new brand image among a wider audience. While details of the new Royal Enfield electric bike are scanty, it’s expected to come with larger capacity battery packs.

The leaked image of the RE electric motorcycle shares a great resemblance to the Himalayan (especially the front end). One can notice an external charger indicator and a decent ground clearance. The bikemaker might equip air intake for battery cooking, exhaust under the seat. It aims to make frame part of body work instead of just being a structure to hang stuff off. The image also states that the “RFID tag on the “key” lets the bike know about the approaching rider, & it “flashes” the battery level to notify the Rider…To avoid my unpleasant surprises later”.

One of the recently leaked images of the upcoming RE electric bike shows its front suspension featuring a unique girder fork. The model will carry neo vintage/classic styling with high quality tactile finishes. The circular headlamp and the conventional tear-drop fuel tank will further enhance its retro look. It will a new chassis with two frame tubes emerging from either side of the headstock.
