Royal Enfield has aggressive product strategy to strengthen its market in coming years. The company plans to expand and upgrade its product portfolio and foray into the electric motorcycle space. Vinod Dasari, Chief Executive Officer, Royal Enfield, has already revealed that the prototypes of the upcoming Royal Enfield electric bikes have been developed by an internal team at its UK R&D centre.
As a part of Royal Enfield’s 2.0 strategy, the electric bikes will be designed on a new platform and are expected to be packed with latest connectivity features including a touchscreen TFT display. If reports are to be believed, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 will be the first RE motorcycle to receive electric powertrain. Prior to that, the model will witness a generation change in 2021. Painted in dual-tone Teal Blue and Gloss Black shade, the rendered model features a circular LED headlamp with LED DRLs (daytime running lights), LED turn indicators and newly-designed black alloy wheels. You can notice a charging port placed on the top of the fuel cap. Other design highlights include black side mirrors, single-piece black seat and a large battery pack placed instead of the powertrain that’s supposed be non-removable. The production-ready version of the new Royal Enfield electric bike might share some of its design elements with the Royal Enfield Concept KX that was unveiled in 2018 at EICMA motor show. Reports suggest that the upcoming new Royal Enfield electric bike’s battery pack will range from 8kWh – 10kWh along with an electric motor. The electric powertrain is expected to deliver power close to 40bhp and 100Nm of torque.
The new RE electric motorcycle might make its debut in its concept form at the 2021 EICMA motor show. Its launch is likely to happen sometime in 2022 or 2023.
