Royal Enfield Backlog Goes to 1.25 Lakh; Meteor Gets 8,000 Bookings

Royal Enfield’s order backlog has increased threefold in three months due to supply chain constraints. Currently, the company has 1.25 lakh pending bookings for the Classic 350 and Bullet 350 motorcycles. Speaking to an online media publication, Vinod Dasari, Chief Executive Officer at Royal Enfield, revealed that the company is facing some supply issues at its vendors and specific models. As of now, the company is focusing to increase the production capacity by around 5 per cent this year by removing some bottlenecks with minor capital expenditure here and there. Royal Enfield aims to sell 100,000 units per month in the next few years without big capital expenditure or new facility setup. The bikemaker was selling around 60,000 motorcycles on monthly basis before the pandemic and it received 70,000 bookings in October, 2020.

The newly-launched Royal Enfield Meteor 350 retro-classic motorcycle gathered 8,000 bookings so far. The bike comes in three variants – Fireball, Stellar and Supernova – priced at Rs 1.76 lakh, Rs 1.81 lakh and Rs 1.90 lakh respectively. At this price point, it takes on the Honda H’ness CB350 and Jawa Classic 350. For power, the Meteor 350 uses a 349cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled that’s good enough for 20.2bhp and 27Nm of torque.

The RE Meteor 350 is the first production model from the Chennai-based bikemaker based on the brand’s new ‘J’ platform. The same architecture will underpin the upcoming Royal Enfield motorcycles including the new-generation RE Classic 350.

With an aim to further strengthen its dominance in global or domestic markets, Royal Enfield is planning to bring in one new bike in every 3 months. Dasari said that the company will expand its mid-sized segment ranging from 250cc-750cc. In coming months, RE will setup a new assembly plant in Thailand, followed by Brazil in near future.
