We reported earlier that Renault is working on a sub-4 metre compact crossover, which is scheduled to go on sale in 2016-17. According to the French magazine Auto Plus, the company is preparing a new crossover, which would target urban buyers.
The compact SUV will be a 4 metre long car and will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. If reports are to be believed, the petrol engine could be the 1.6-litre engine with 200bhp of power. The company might also introduce the hybrid version. It is expected to be priced at € 16,000 (Approximately, INR 10.81 lakh).
Currently, the Renault Captur is the company’s smallest crossover measuring 4.12 meter in length. Going the by the projection made by the magazine, it looks like that the crossover would share styling with Renault 5. It is expected to be based on the Clio platform, and is much smaller and has rear engine.
It is quite early to comment whether this crossover will make way to our market. The company is planning to launch a compact SUV in India to rival Ford EcoSport and upcoming SUVs from Tata, Mahindra and Nissan. According to Indian media, Renault will launch the Captur crossover in the country by 2016-17. The company will chop down the boot to make it a sub-4 metre car. India-spec model is expected to get 1.5-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol engine.
