Renault India will launch the new small budge hatchback, codenamed XBA, in the country in 2015. The company’s first car based on the Common Module Family (CMF) architecture will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan technical centre at Chennai. The early prototype of the Renault XBA hatchback has been spotted testing on Indian roads, which is fully covered.
Based on the CMF-A (for budget hatchbacks) architecture, the Renault XBA small car will sport an 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is developed by Renault-Nissan technical centre in Chennai. This is the same engine that also underpins the Datsun RediGo hatchback, unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. Both hatchbacks will also share components to keep its cost down.
The A-Entry hatchback will be priced under Rs. 4 lakh and will compete against the likes of Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Chevrolet Beat. The XBA is a global car and will be exported to several emerging markets around the world. It is expected to be launched in the Indian car market by mid-2015.
Renault India is planning to mark its entry into the growing segments including compact MPV and compact car. The company has already started testing the Lodgy MPV, which is likely to go on sale in the country by early next year.
