Renault XBA hatch India launch in May 2015- Report

Renault, the French automaker will launch its much-awaited Lodgy MPV in March/April this year. According to a new report, the company’s much-anticipated entry-level small car, codenamed ‘XBA’ will be launched in the Indian car market in May this year. The XBA will make its world premiere in India, and will later introduced in other markets including South Africa, South America and Asia.

According to ET, Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault Nissan Alliance, will reach to Chennai, India, in May 2015 for the launch of XBA small car. The small car will be manufactured at the Nissan-Renault alliance plant in Oragadam, Chennai. The car will be rolled out the production unit, while the pricing and specifications of the car will also be revealed at the time of launch.

The Renault XBA will be based on the CMF-A platform, which will also underpin the Datsun Redi-Go concept based hatch. Under the bonnet is the newly developed 800cc petrol engine. This engine will be coupled to either five-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual transmission.

The Renault XBA will compete against the likes of Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon, and will be priced under Rs. 4 lakh. The French automaker is betting big on the small car to achieve its ambitious plan of acquiring 5 per cent market share.
