Renault Nissan Confirm 6 New Models For India – 2 EVs

With an aim to revive its Indian market business, Renault-Nissan Alliance has announced 6 new models including two electric vehicles (EVs). These models will also be sold in global markets. The carmaker has also confirmed a new investment of Rs 5,300 crore for increasing production and R&D activities, introducing EVs and transitioning to carbon neutral manufacturing (by 2045). Under the new agreement, Renault will reduce its stake in Nissan (to 15% from 43%) over time and Nissan will make investment in Renault’s EV unit which is being planned.

Renault-Nissan Alliance has revealed that the upcoming three models will be designed and developed at its Chennai-based facility. The range will including four new C-segment SUVs. While the models will share Alliance platforms, they will carry a distinctive styling of the respective brands. The upcoming Renault and Nissan electric cars will be A-segment EVs targeting mass-market.

New Nissan 7-seater MPV

Details of the upcoming Renault Nissan cars are yet to be revealed. Renault, however, has confirmed the third-generation Duster based on the Dacia Bigster concept. The SUV could be made available with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine benefited with a 48V hybrid technology. The setup will deliver power worth around 130bhp. There might also be a 1.3L turbo petrol engine. The all-new Duster will have AWD drivetrain system along with the improved approach & departure angles and high ground clearance.

Nissan, on the other hand, will introduce a 7-seater MPV based on the Renault Triber and a mid-size SUV to challenge Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara. The model will be built on the new CMF-B modular platform that’s compatible to different body styles and powertrains including strong hybrid, PHEV and petrol. It will also meet the existing and the upcoming safety standards. The new Nissan SUV is likely to hit our roads after the arrival of the new-generation Renault Duster.
