The French automaker is planning to enter into the electric vehicle (EV) segment in the Indian market. While the company hasn’t yet revealed its product plans, the Renault Megane E-Tech could be the first EV from the company. It’s the brand’s first model to be based on the Alliance’s CMF-EV platform that’s compatible to 2WD and AWD systems. This modular architecture has a place for battery pack in the floor that allows the lower placement of seats and it enables vehicles to have long wheelbase and comparably short overhangs. Based on the Megane eVision concept that broke cover in 2020, the Renault Megane E-Tech carries the conventional C-shaped headlamps, flush-fitting door handles, 20-inch alloy wheels and 3D effect LED arrangement for rear lights. Compared to the ICE Megane, the electric version has 20mm longer wheelbase measuring 2700mm.
Interior of the new Renault electric car has been packed with lots of advanced goodies. There is a dashboard integrated Renault’s OpenR display featuring a 12-inch portrait style touchscreen infotainment and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster. While the higher trim gets leather seat upholstery, the other variants come with fabric seats made from 100 percent recycled plastic.
Globally, the Renault Megane E-Tech is available with two battery packs – 40kWh and 60kWh and two electric motors – 130bhp with 250Nm and 218bhp with 300Nm. While the smaller battery pack delivers a claimed range of 300km, the bigger battery setup offers 470km. Its quickest variants can accelerate 0 to 100kmph in 7.4 seconds.
The battery of the new Renault electric car can be charged from 15-80 percent in 30 minutes via an optional 130kW DC charger. Suspension setup of the Megane E-Tech includes a MacPherson-strut and a multi-link unit at the front and rear axles respectively.
The Megane E-Tech will come to India via CBU (Completely Built Up) route and its prices are likely to start from Rs 45 lakh.
