We have reported earlier that Renault is working on an all-new compact sedan for the Indian market. Codenamed Renault LBA, the new sedan will be put up against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.

According to a latest report, the French carmaker will come up with competitive prices for the sedan, which are likely to be between Rs 5 lakh – Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom). If launched in this price range, it will undercut the Dzire with a good margin.

The French carmaker might export its new sedan in markets like Africa, Latin America and South East Asia. While the official launch timeline of the vehicle is yet to be announced, it’s likely to hit roads sometime in 2022. It could be showcased at the Auto Expo 2022.

The new Renault LBA compact sedan will be based on the CMF-A (Common Module Family architecture) platform that underpins the Triber MPV and the upcoming HBC subcompact SUV. This modular architecture is jointly developed by Nissan and Renault via their Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. It’s compatible to multiple body style and powertrains and helps reducing manufacturing costs.

Under the hood, the new Renault sedan might feature a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that does duty in the Triber MPV. Called the TCe 100, the new gasoline motor will produce a maximum power of 99bhp and a peak torque of 160Nm. The same powertrain will be used in the upcoming Renault HBC compact SUV. Both manual and AMT gearbox are likely to be on offer.

Renault’s new compact SUV is slated to go on sale during 2020 festive season. The company aims to sell 50,000 units on annual basis. After the HBC subcompact SUV, the French carmaker will bring the electric iteration of the Kwid hatchback – XBA-EV. Renault showcased the Zoe and Kwid electric cars at the recently-concluded Auto Expo 2020.
