Renault Kwid Electric Hatchback In The Works; Coming In India Too

To be launched in China in 2018, the new Renault Kwid Electric vehicle will also be imported in India and will go on sale post 2020

Renault, the French automaker is working on the electric version of the Renault Kwid. Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CEO, Mr. Carlos Ghosn said that the electric version of the Kwid is almost ready. The Renault Kwid Electric will first go on sale in the Chinese market as a low cost electric car. Renault will also launch this model in the Indian market as government of India is aiming to go all electric by 2030.

Carlos Ghosn confirmed that the Kwid will also be launched in the Indian market, though launch details are yet to be announced. It is expected that the Kwid electric could be launched in the country by 2020, as most of the automakers are planning to introduce electric cars from 2020. Speaking to autonews.com, Carlos Ghosn said, “In China, we can’t sell the Leaf. Too expensive and too sophisticated. We can’t sell the Renault Fluence. Too expensive. What sells in China? Low-cost electric cars. So we are putting engineers from the alliance to develop a low-cost Renault Kwid EV for China. I just test drove the car in China. It will be a very well engineered car at a very low cost. Renault Kwid Electric Launch Date

French automaker is yet to make an official statement on the launch of the Kwid electric in India. However, Renault-Nissan alliance’s CEO hinted that the EV could eventually come in our market. Renault Kwid Electric Price

It is expected that Renault will develop Kwid electric in India, which will help the automaker to price it competitively. We believe that the low-cost EV could be priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh.

Renault Kwid Electric Specifications

The company is yet to reveal the details of Kwid’s battery range and performance. It is expected that the low-cost EV could offer a range of up to 200kms on full charge. Renault-Nissan alliance’s currently sells several electric ccaars in foreign markets including Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe.
